HIGH DELEGATION VISIT OF SHANDONG NORMAL UNIVERSITY CHANCELLOR TO KU 22ND JULY 2019

KU VC Paul Wainaina on 22nd July 2019 played host in his office to a high level delegation from Shandong Normal University led by university Chancellor Shang Xiao. The Chancellor and his team of directors visited KU to not only pay a courtesy call to the VC but to renew an MoU that was signed well over ten years ago between the two universities. SDNU has been receiving many students on scholarship from KU while KU has been hosting many Chinese Volunteers and Lecturers as part of the MoU for the last ten years. Top on the agenda was also talks around how to further the already ongoing smooth relations between the two universities.

Kenyatta University VC Prof. Paul Wainaina expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Shandong Normal University Chancellor for having found time out of his very busy schedule to visit Kenyatta University. He talked about the ongoing plans to launch a degree program in Chinese Language and Culture and asked the partner University to support by supplying qualified teachers to teach. He also talked about Research which is the back bone of any institution of higher learning and stated that KU was open to explore more areas of collaboration on the same. The Chancellor Shandong Normal University on the other hand, thanked the KU VC for the warm welcome and good working relations they have had with SDNU. He reiterated that SDNU was keen on having more collaborations with KU in other fields as well. The team from SDNU later met Deans of schools and continued talks with them on how each school could collaborate to enrich learning in both institutions. Kenyatta University Confucius Institute played a critical role in organizing the trip and link communication between different parties. CI will continue to encourage this. KU CI Director Dr. Kamau Wango asked all Deans of School to be more proactive in keeping contacts and negotiating further with the partner university to see fruition of talks around collaborations in exchange of students, information and members of staff.
