On October 28, 2024, the Confucius Institute proudly participated in the opening ceremony of Kenyatta University's annual Culture Week, showcasing the rich tapestry of Chinese culture. The institute's exhibition area was a vibrant spectacle, adorned with colorful Chinese knots, lanterns, and informative posters highlighting the various courses offered.

The exhibition featured distinct sections that allowed attendees to engage with different aspects of Chinese culture. Visitors had the opportunity to explore Chinese calligraphy, paper cutting, don traditional costumes, and learn about the intricate art of Beijing opera. Each display was designed to immerse participants in the beauty and depth of Chinese traditions, fostering a greater appreciation for the cultural exchange between China and Kenya.

Professor Waceke Wanjohi, Vice-Chancellor of Kenyatta University, visited the Confucius Institute booth alongside the chief guest, Martin Khafafa, CEO of NRG Radio. During her visit, she actively participated in calligraphy activities, expressing her admiration for the art form and acknowledging the enriching experience it offered. Professor Wanjohi emphasized that such cultural exchanges deepen the understanding of Chinese culture among students and the wider community.

She also expressed hope for increased student enrollment at the Confucius Institute, recognizing its role in bridging cultural gaps and promoting language learning. The collaboration between Kenyatta University and the Confucius Institute not only highlights the importance of cultural exchange but also strengthens educational ties between Kenya and China.

Many students who visited the KUCI tent were encouraged to enroll in the Chinese Language Beginner Course. This subsidized course is offered to bona fide Kenyatta University students every evening after 5 PM. It serves as a valuable addition to their qualifications, helping thousands of KU graduates enter the job market as multilingual professionals. This was also an opportunity for the institute to market its TVET aligned certificate and diploma in Chinese language and Culture and also the newly launched Bachelor of Arts in Chinese language .

The participation of the Confucius Institute at Kenyatta University underscores its commitment to promoting cultural understanding and language learning, paving the way for future collaborations and enriching the educational experience for all students.
