The Confucius Institute successfully hosted its inaugural annual board retreat from Wednesday, August 20th to Sunday, August 25th, 2025, at the scenic North Coast Beach Hotel. This landmark event brought together all board members for a comprehensive strategic planning session aimed at guiding the institute’s growth and future initiatives.

The retreat was chaired by the Board Chair, Prof. Leonard Kisovi, who was flanked by the institute’s directors — Local Director Dr. Salome Nyambura and Chinese Director Prof. Zhou Xiaodong. Together, they led the team through a thorough review of the institute’s performance over the past year (2024–2025), celebrating achievements and identifying areas for growth.

A key highlight of the retreat was the formal induction of new board members, marking a significant step in strengthening the institute’s governance and expanding its vision.

Over the course of five days, the board engaged in collaborative discussions, workshops, and planning activities to set clear goals and priorities for the upcoming year. The retreat fostered a spirit of teamwork and shared commitment to advancing the institute’s mission of promoting Chinese language and culture.

The Confucius Institute looks forward to implementing the strategies developed during the retreat and continuing its role as a vital cultural and educational bridge in the community.
