WHY STUDY CHINESE AT KENYATTA UNIVERSITY CONFUCIUS INSTITUTE

 1. The Institute curriculum is delivered through a variety of professionally developed CUE and TVETA curricula that are in touch with the current job market. You have the choice to learn Chinese for as short as 3 months to 2 years.

2. The diversity of student and staff population makes it the best place in the region to learn Chinese. We have admissions from as far as Nigeria, Lebanon, South Sudan to mention just but a few.

3. KUCI is a HSK, HSKK and YCT exam Centre that offers several exam sittings a year both virtually and physically. Students are offered free intensive pre HSK exam training to ensure all pass the exams.

4. Institute faculty is made up of both Kenyan and Chinese nationals. Chinese members of staff undergo intensive training on local teaching methods and compliance to Kenyatta University working policies which they enrich by bringing in international expertise. The staff members undergo vetting and interview process by partner University Shandong Normal and the Chinese International Education Foundation and MUST have minimum master’s degree.

5. Availability of different academic and none academic scholarships to excelling students. Annually an average of 50 students get the opportunity to go live and study in China on fully sponsored scholarships. This helps immerse them in the language’s domicile and makes them attain a native accent and proper appreciation of native culture.

6. Guarantee of job placement as the Institute is linked to many Chinese corporates in Kenya who frequently employ Chinese speaking graduates.

7. The Confucius Institute is domiciled in the new LCC Building, a 4 story building equipped with the latest start of the art equipment, furniture and resources for Chinese language learning. The building has classrooms, 2 ICT labs with high speed internet, a special library fully stocked with books and e resources, activity rooms, exhibition halls, and lounges for students to relax and interact as they practice the language.

8. There are several clubs and activities that students can join and engage in to enrich Chinese learning. These include; martial arts, Chinese corner reading club, painting, calligraphy, choir, dance club, tea making club among others. Excelling students can display these during the Institute’s over 20 annual calendar of events.

9. Presence of Kenyatta University Confucius Institute Student Association (KUCISA) whose aim is to bring together Chinese language students for peer  teaching and mentoring.

10. Participation in inter-universities Chinese language competition e.g. Chinese bridge competition after which winners are awarded scholarships tenable in China.

11. There are several seminars and trainings that take place to encourage a culture of research in the Institute community. Training expertise in these trainings are drawn from both Kenya and China.
