The Confucius Institute organized the second annual table tennis tournament on the 29th – 30th October 2018. This event is part of the Confucius Institute’s cultural activities that include popular games within the Chinese club activities. Such tournaments are designed to keep our students engaged in interactive activities that enhance their Chinese language as well as creating opportunities for creativity through sports. The CI believes that a suitable strategy towards foreign language acquisition is to create an enabling environment where students can both interact and compete towards a specific outcome.
The two-day tournament was held at the Confucius Institute Cultural Experience Centre at the Alumni Building. The competition featured a total of eight teams that included both the amateur and professional categories. The Chinese Director, Prof. Li Jing encouraged the students to participate in events of this nature organized by the Institute in order not only to enhance their Chinese language but to pursue sporting activities in their youthful years to keep their minds fresh and remain physically active and competitive. The tournament was won by the team comprising who each received a certificate of merit and a token prize.
