The popularity of Chinese language and culture has continued to grow globally following the increasing realization of the important role China continues to play in the world. Thus the establishment of Confucius Institute at Kenyatta University was a response to this trend. The Institute was established in December 2008 as a joint collaboration between Kenyatta University, Shandong Normal University, China and Confucius Institute Headquarters in Hanban, China.
Since its establishment in December 2008, the Confucius Institute at Kenyatta University has continued to grow and improve the quality of its Chinese language programmes; increase in the number of students learning Chinese; mounting market-driven programmes and linking up the graduates of the Institute with organizations interested in hiring employees proficient in the Chinese language. Over 1,526 students have this far completed various Chinese certificate courses at the Institute.

KUCI CELEBRATE THE 2022 MID-AUTUMN FESTIVAL On the afternoon of September 22nd 2022, Confucius Institute at Kenyatta University celebrated the mid-autumn festival. This is the second largest Chinese festival after the Spring Festival or what the world knows as the Chinese New Year festival. According to the Chinese lunar calendar, it falls on the 15th day of the eighth month and is celebrated all over Mainland China as well as in Taiwan and Hong Kong, with differing styles of celebrations depending on location. These festivities fall around harvest season when families gather for dinners, to share the joys of harvesting rice and many fruits.
